YAM Squad: Frustration Tolerance Group

This ten-week coping skills training group is an instructional group that helps children learn effective ways to deal with anger and other challenging emotions. The skills training and practice exercises taught in this group will assist participants in the following:

  • Identifying and understanding feelings of frustration
  • Recognizing triggers that lead to intense feelings
  • Controlling and managing the source of the frustration
  • Developing plans using effective coping tools to handle emotions in a constructive way
Through using a variety of evidence-based approaches, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy, sandtray therapy, CBT, and play-based interventions, participants will gain the power to improve their reactions when experiencing anger. During the group, participants will learn skills through fun activities and role-play scenarios. The skills learned in this group can be applied in multiple contexts, including home and school.

The group is open to children in grades 3-5 or grades 6-8, depending on the session. The fee for the entire ten-week group is only $40 for residents and $120 for non-residents (space permitting) and includes all materials.

The next session for grades 6-8 will meet from 6:30-7:20 pm on Tuesdays at the Maine Township Town Hall from 9/17/24-12/10/24 (no group on 10/29, 11/5, or 11/26). There are only 10 spots available in this group.
