Handicap Accessible Shuttle Bus Driver

We are seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Handicap Accessible Shuttle Bus Driver to transports passengers, mostly seniors or disabled, from their homes to appointments and senior programs and assists with boarding and deboarding 7-passenger, lift-equipped Pace bus. This position is a part time, up to 19 hour per week position, Monday to Friday, afternoon hours vary.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for safely transporting senior and/or disabled individuals to and from various destinations, aiding with boarding, ensuring a comfortable and secure journey, and fostering a friendly and respectful environment
  • Adheres to all traffic regulations while driving
  • Conduct vehicle inspections
  • Report all accidents or incidents to local police and Township Administrator
  • Records passenger counts as required
  • Ensures that vehicle has adequate gas and is in good working order each day
  • Prepare PACE reports as needed
  • Promptly reports any bus mechanical problems
  • Maintains daily work sheet of trips completed and completes accident/incident reports when necessary
  • Follow PACE Role of Driver guidelines including assisting with wheelchairs, helping riders on and off the bus, escorting riders to the entrance of the building while being professional and courteous
  • Completes other duties assigned or required
  • Online and in person training provided
Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must have a good work history and a record of safe driving (5 years)
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be flexible enough to occasionally work additional hours
  • Must have ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be punctual and reliable
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Position requires ability to carry up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to safely push/pull individuals in wheelchairs
  • Requires operation of heavy motor vehicle and ability to follow geographic directions
  • Must pass background and drug test; subject to random drug tests
Education and/or Experience

  • Prior experience driving a bus, shuttle bus, or other commercial vehicle desirable
Skills

  • Must be skilled at using Google Maps or other driving apps
  • Must be adept at using email and adding data to Excel sheets
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Must have valid Illinois Driver’s License
Working Conditions/Physical Demands

  • Work requires the ability to lift/carry objects routinely objects weighing 35-50 pounds lifted on a regular basis
  • Work requires the ability to stoop, bend, reach and grab with arms and hands, manual dexterity
  • Work requires sufficient auditory and visual acuity to interact with and/or care for others
  • Work requires color vision
Salary and Schedule

  • $20/hour
  • Part time up to 19 hours a week – hourly
  • Monday through Friday, afternoon hours vary
  • Work location - in person
