Maine Township is located in Cook County, directly north and east of O'Hare International Airport in Chicago. Maine Township contains portions of the Chicago suburbs of Park Ridge, Morton Grove, Niles, Glenview, Des Plaines and Rosemont.

The Maine Township Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is established to provide assistance during emergency response and disaster preparedness services to Maine Township residents during natural and human-caused emergencies. The Township OEM Director serves as the Emergency Management Coordinator, overseeing a dedicated team of volunteer OEM members who activate during declared disasters to support critical emergency functions.
Primary Responsibilities
Emergency Response Functions: The core mission of OEM volunteers is to provide essential support during officially declared disasters and emergency situations. Volunteers assist with:
- Traffic control and management
- Street closure implementation and monitoring
- Fire scene support operations
- Police incident scene assistance
- Special event support (parades, festivals, community gatherings)
- Utility emergency response support
- Public safety event coordination
- Community emergency preparedness activities
- Resource coordination and logistics
- Emergency communications
- Damage assessment support
- Public safety coordination
- Shelter operations assistance
- Emergency supply distribution
- Become members of Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
Qualifications and Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Parents volunteer can serve alongside their child 16+
- Commitment to serve the Maine Township community
- Availability for emergency response activation
- Willingness to participate in ongoing training programs
