Cook County Homeowner Relief Fund – Application Extended and Eligibility Expanded

Maine Township homeowners may now have an even greater opportunity to qualify for property tax relief through the Cook County Homeowner Relief Fund. This program provides a one-time $1,000 payment to eligible households experiencing significant property tax increases.
What’s New?
- The application period has been extended to October 31, 2025.
- Eligibility has been expanded — homeowners with at least a 30% year-over-year property tax increase (previously 50%) in 2021, 2022, or 2023 may now qualify.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the $1,000 property tax relief payment, applicants must meet all of the following:
- Property tax increase – Your property tax bill increased by 30% or more in one of the following years: 2021, 2022, or 2023.
- Income requirement – Your household income is at or below 100% of the Cook County Area Median Income (AMI) for your household size.

- Primary residence – The property must be your primary home.
Application Process
The process includes two phases:
- Phase 1 – Initial Screening: Submit basic personal and demographic information. All applicants enter a lottery for possible advancement to Phase 2.
- Phase 2 – Document Submission: Selected applicants submit documents to verify eligibility. Successful submissions advance to a final lottery for selection.
