IMPORTANT NOTICE – Des Plaines River Flooding Update
Dear Residents,
We want to keep you informed about current conditions along the Des Plaines River. The river has risen above flood stage and is forecast to crest at approximately 17 feet by Friday morning. Additional rain is expected on Friday evening, which may cause levels to rise further.
We strongly encourage residents to take the following precautionary steps now:
- Move valuables, electronics, and important documents to upper floors or higher ground
- Check that your sump pump is working and consider a battery backup
- Clear storm drains near your property of debris
- Move vehicles to higher ground if you are in a low-lying area
- Have sandbags ready if you have a history of water entering your home
- Avoid driving or walking through any standing or moving water, even 12 inches can sweep a vehicle away
Keep an eye on NWS updates at www.water.noaa.gov/gauges/dspi2
The township and emergency services are actively monitoring the situation. A Flood Warning is in effect through Tuesday afternoon.
We will continue to provide updates as conditions develop. Please look out for your neighbors, especially the elderly and those who may need assistance.
The Maine Township Highway Department will be making sand and sandbags available at the Township Town Hall parking lot, 1700 Ballard Rd. in Park Ridge, starting Thursday morning by 7:30 am. Sand, bags and shovels will be provided on-site, and residents will need to fill and haul away what they bag themselves.
For emergencies, call 911. For non-emergency flood concerns, contact Public Works.
Stay safe,
Maine Township Office of Emergency Management
