Handicap Accessible Shuttle Bus Driver

We are seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Handicap Accessible Shuttle Bus Driver to transport passengers, mostly elderly or disabled, from their homes to appointments and shopping and assist with boarding and deboarding 7-passenger, lift-equipped bus. This position is a part time, up to 19 hours per week position Monday to Friday from 1-5 pm.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for safely transporting elderly and/or disabled individuals to and from various destinations, providing assistance with boarding, ensuring a comfortable and secure journey, and fostering a friendly and respectful environment
  • Answers calls and schedules pick-ups
  • Adheres to all traffic regulations while driving
  • Collects fares, sells fare cards, and punches fare cards
  • Records fares collected and passenger counts as required
  • Reports to contact whenever passengers might require assistance of police, medical or other services
  • Ensures that vehicle has adequate gas and is in good working order each day
  • Promptly reports any bus mechanical problems
  • Maintains daily work sheet of trips completed and completes accident/incident reports when necessary
  • Completes other duties assigned or required
  • Online and in person training provided
Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must have a good work history and a record of safe driving (5 years)
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be flexible enough to occasionally work additional hours
  • Must have ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be punctual and reliable
  • Must be a dedicated and patient bus driver
  • Must pass background and drug test; subject to random drug tests
Education and/or Experience

  • Prior experience driving a bus, shuttle bus, or other commercial vehicle desirable
Skills

  • Must be skilled at using Google Maps or other driving apps
  • Must be adept at using email and adding data to Excel sheets
  • Ability to speak Polish, Spanish, or other languages desirable
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Must have valid Illinois Driver’s License/CDL license not required
Salary and Schedule

  • $20/hour
  • Part time up to 19 hours a week – hourly
  • Afternoon 1-5 pm - Monday through Friday
  • Work location - in person
