Position Base Salary Range: $60,000–$90,000

Position Summary

The Family Therapist is a full-time, 40 hour per week position under the supervision of the Director of MaineStay Youth & Family Services. The Family Therapist assists with achieving the mission of MaineStay Youth & Family Services by offering a variety of therapeutic services to families, youth, adults, and couples. This position provides therapy services, facilitates psychoeducational groups, and works to enhance the functioning of families in need while promoting positive youth development.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Provides individual and family therapy to Maine Township residents in both office and school settings
    1. Utilizes strength-based and solution-oriented brief therapy approaches, supplemented by other approaches as needed
    2. Completes all required documentation in a timely manner according to departmental standards
    3. Actively pursues professional development through workshops and trainings
    4. Communicates with other service providers as needed
    5. Provides referrals as needed
  2. Facilitates psychoeducational groups or social emotional learning programs
  3. Assists with training of master’s level intern therapists
    1. Conducts educational seminars as needed
    2. Provides live observation of clinical work or co-therapy as needed
    3. Attends and actively participates in weekly case consultation meetings
    4. Assists with interviewing and selection process of prospective internship students
  4. Other Job Functions
    1. Assists with staffing of summer camp as needed
    2. Assists with staffing of other programs as needed
    3. Attends all team and individual meetings as scheduled
    4. Represents MaineStay at community and school events as requested
    5. Performs all other duties as assigned by the Director of MaineStay

  • Knowledge of family treatment theories and positive youth development strategies
  • Skill in framing presenting problems in a family context using family systems and systemic models
  • Capacity to manage strong emotions and mediate value conflicts effectively
  • Flexibility to work effectively with a variety of ages and clinical issues
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to lead constructive conversations
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships with residents, parents, schools, and organizations
  • Ability to interface effectively with diverse populations, including different ethnic, educational, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Must be available to work both day and evening hours
Education

  • Master’s degree in marriage and family therapy, clinical mental health counseling, clinical psychology, or a related field (or nearing completion of degree)
Computer Skills

  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications, including, but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel, TherapyNotes EMR, Canva

Certificates/Licenses

  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)/Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) or Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT)/Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) state of Illinois license in good standing (or working towards licensure)
