Maine Township Highway Department Secures "Invest in Cook County" Grant for Community Connectivity
The grant was announced by the Cook County Dept. of Transportation and Highways and is one of three grants scheduled to be received by the Maine Township Highway Department
The Maine Township Highway Department recently received notice of approval for an “Invest in Cook” grant from the Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways.
Specifically, CCDoTH is granting the Highway Departments request of $425,000 for Construction to support the Church Street Sidewalk and Bike Lane Project. This project spearheaded by Highway Commissioner Ed Beauvais was identified by the County as being in alignment with Connecting Cook County, their Long-Range Transportation Plan.
“We are thrilled to receive this approval from Cook County,” Highway Commissioner Ed Beauvais, said. “This funding will enable the Department to move full steam ahead on a planned community connectivity project which will enhance the lives of all Maine Township residents,” Beauvais further outlined.
In the coming weeks, the Township and the County will work to enter an intergovernmental agreement and begin the necessary steps to begin this project. Since January, the Maine Township Highway Department has secured over $1 Million in anticipated project funding from local, state and federal sources.
The Maine Township Highway Department maintains 21.8 miles of roadway, approximately one-hundred streets, and untold numbers of sewers and sidewalks, Maine Township’s unincorporated area is one of the largest unincorporated areas in the entire state.
