Maine Township Highway Department Completes Signage and Safety Improvements at Washington School
The improvements come after a site-review was conducted by the Department and Washington School, which is part of East Maine School District 63, to determine how best to improve student and vehicle safety.
According to Principal Kate Anderson, these improvements will make it easier and safer for students, parents and other personnel to conveniently enter and exit the school at welcome and dismissal. “Several years ago, there were two people hit outside our school,” Principal Anderson said. “The Cook County Sheriff’s office has been helpful in managing traffic safety as school begins, but these changes will improve safety overall and we are extremely grateful for the Township’s action on this issue,” Principal Anderson articulated.
Maine Township Highway Commissioner Ed Beauvais, who recently viewed the finished work with Principal Anderson, said he was relieved to see the work completed “in short order.” He further explained, “Our Department takes the safety of our residents with the utmost responsibility, especially as it pertains to children attending a school.” “The investment we can make for student safety is never a question of too much,” Beauvais said.
The Maine Township Highway Department maintains 21.8 miles of roadway, approximately one-hundred streets, and untold numbers of sewers and sidewalks, Maine Township’s unincorporated area is one of the largest unincorporated areas in the entire state.
