Maine Township Food Pantry Receives Donated Freezers and Furniture from Shuttering Catholic Charities Food Pantry

After many years serving the Maine Township community, Catholic Charities in Des Plaines is set to close its doors on Rand Road. School District 62 has recently purchased the building and plans for its use in the foreseeable future.

Due to the closure, the Maine Township Food Pantry recently received additional freezers and furniture from Catholic Charities that will be used to further expand and improve the Township’s pantry.

"These donations from Catholic Charities are a bittersweet surprise and greatly appreciated,” Supervisor Karen Dimond said.

Dimond, who said she plans to publicly recognize and thank Catholic Charities for its many years of service at the next board meeting, said that the Township is expected to see additional need due to this closure. “With the closing of Catholic Charities in Des Plaines, we are expecting an uptick in new clients and residents seeking the food pantry’s services,” Dimond explained.

The Township Food Pantry is a 501(c)(3) organization serving the needs of our most vulnerable residents. To learn more visit mainetown.com/pantry.
