Maine Township Celebrates Pride Month!

Maine Township elected officials and staff are proud to participate in the monthlong celebration of inclusiveness, belonging and Pride throughout the Township!

Pride month brings people together of all backgrounds to assert the overarching themes of acceptance and love in our communities and promote allyship throughout diverse neighborhoods.

So far this month, the Township staff and elected officials have been busy participating in community Pride events meant to strengthen bonds and uplift the LGBTQ+ community in our Township.

Earlier in the month, Maine Township Youth Program Coordinator and former Township Pride Program Director, Emily Toomey attended the SPEAK Des Plaines Community Pride Celebration with hundreds of other attendees.

“It was such a strong feeling of support for our local LGBTQ+ communities,” Toomey said. “It’s very important to show everyone is loved for who they are in Maine Township,” Toomey said.

In addition to Des Plaines, the Township took part as a sponsor in Morton Grove’s first ever Pride Celebration last Friday evening. Trustee Kelly Horvath attended the event and addressed those assembled, communicating a strong thank you to the community and message of support and love for LGBTQ+ neighbors and residents.

“It was an honor to speak at the first-ever Morton Grove Pride Celebration,” Trustee Horvath said. “Now more than ever, it’s incumbent upon those in leadership positions to demonstrate that Maine Township is home to all, regardless of how you choose to identify,” Trustee Horvath said.
