Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October 2025 is Breast Cancer Awareness Month—a time to spread awareness, support survivors and fondly remember those who are no longer with us.

In Maine Township, we are recognizing the month by putting out a call to action for increased resources, research and companionship for people and families facing this affliction in their daily lives.

The Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program, administered by the Illinois Department of Public Health, offers free mammograms, breast exams, pelvic exams, and Pap tests to eligible women. Even if a woman has already been diagnosed with cancer, she may receive free treatment through the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services if she qualifies. No income requirements apply. The program has been providing breast and cervical cancer screenings to the women of Illinois since 1995.

Treatment can be most effective in the early stages of the disease. Regular self-exams and annual mammograms are essential in identifying breast cancer at its earliest stages.
