The Senior Citizen Real Estate Tax Deferral Applications Are Now Available

Are you a senior citizen, at least 65 years of age by June 1, whose household income is less than $75,000? 

The Senior Citizen Tax Deferral program is a tax-relief program that works like a loan.  It allows seniors to defer a maximum of $7,500 per year on their primary home.  The loan from the State of Illinois is paid when the property is sold or upon the death of the participant.

If you are interested in further details, applications are available at the Cook County Treasurer’s Office or the Maine Township Assessor’s Office.  Please note the application deadline is March 1, 2026.
