Maine Township’s Recovery Connection Program Launches Sober-Friendly Group Fitness Classes

Maine Township is so fortunate to have an award-winning program that connects young adults who want to stay clean and sober with each other, as well as community resources, social events, and a strong network of peers to support each other and be positive examples of recovery.

At Recovery Connection, Director Marty Cook works collaboratively with health, vocational, governmental, educational, and behavioral experts to connect participants to community resources that can meet their needs.

On March 1st – May 31st Recovery Connection is teaming up with Steel Fitness Club (5814 Dempster St.) in Morton Grove to offer sober-friendly group fitness classes. The classes are set for Wednesday nights at 6 pm and Saturday mornings at 10 am through May 2026.

In this class you’ll learn the fundamentals of strength training, group exercise, and sustainable nutrition in a supportive, judgment-free environment. The program is designed for adults of all fitness levels who are looking to build strength, confidence and healthy routines without substances – and with a real community. For more information and to sign-up contact Marty Cook at 773-593-0165.

“The goal of Recovery Connection is to support long-term sobriety, healthy lifestyle activities, and to assist people as they mature into contributing members of our community,” says program Director, Marty Cook. “This new group fitness program is just another way we can meet the needs of those in recovery and assist them in sustaining healthy lifestyles,” Cook added.

Recovery Connection regularly convenes every Friday night at 7:30 pm at Oasis Water Park, 7877 N. Milwaukee Avenue, Niles. At the meetings participants hear from guest speakers and learn from each other’s experiences and practices in staying sober in a group meal setting, featuring a different community restaurant every week! The event serves as a powerful example that people can have fun without drugs and alcohol. Recently, two of Recovery Connection’s guest speakers have published books on their recoveries!

In addition to these activities, participants in the program gather regularly for group events. Below are some upcoming events. Please contact mcook@mainetown.com for more info!
