Maine Township Highway Department Addressing Flooding

Township elected officials stand together on a construction site in front of a large orange excavator. They are dressed in business and business-casual attire and smiling at the camera. The ground is gravel with construction equipment and materials nearby, including a traffic barricade and a concrete pipe. Trees and residential homes are visible in the background under a partly cloudy sky.The Maine Township Highway Department is making substantial progress regarding a large area that connects Maine Township’s drainage infrastructure with and through a Village of Niles section of right of way.

The focus of this intergovernmental agreement between the two entities has been on upgrading existing sewer lines, adding newer and larger pipes, and improving overall water flow. The contractor will soon begin the next phase of this project which will assist in alleviating years of flooding and water retention issues in the area.

“Flooding is a problem we are constantly trying to get ahead of,” said Beauvais. “I work with my staff, local residents, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District and our other local government partners to identify projects that can help address this ongoing issue.”
